Our Assistant Restaurant and Bar Manager role: We're looking for an Assistant Restaurant and Bar Manager to guide our Restaurant and Bar team, and to support our Restaurant and Bar Manager to deliver award-winning, locally sourced and memorable dishes and dining experiences. Across land, sea and air, Islay is brimming with fresh island produce all coming together at The Courtyard and the hotel's award-winning 18 Restaurant & Bar. From Loch Gruinart oysters, Islay scallops and Port Askaig lobster, to superb beef, lamb and game, and locally grown vegetables, our menus are as fresh as they come. Behind the bar, you'll also find Islay whisky, gin, rum and an array of craft beers.
Our Restaurant and Bar team is essential for maintaining our exemplary guest satisfaction at Another Place - The Machrie. Together, we deliver exceptional food and ensure that guests receive a consistently high-quality dining experience. Our team also ensures that guests receive a warm welcome and are cared for, aware of our current offerings, and enjoy every moment that they spend with us.
As our Assistant Food and Beverage Manager, you'll be:
- Guiding the team in an empathetic way, leading by example, and creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for team and guests.
- Managing rotas, timesheets, and wages in line with business needs.
- Supporting our Restaurant Manager with team training, development, and performance management.
- Actively engaging in daily operations and looking for opportunities to go above and beyond for team and guests.
- Creating a welcoming and relaxed environment for guests, by empowering team with Restaurant and Bar knowledge, and promoting a smooth running of service.
- Handling and resolving guest complaints with a mindful, proactive, and considerate approach.
- Supervising functions and events in a professional manner, ensuring the highest level of guest satisfaction.
- Warmly welcoming guests, including members of Islay Golf Club.
- Working alongside our Food and Beverage Manager and Head Chef to improve all aspects of our food and dining service.
- Following COSHH and health and safety procedures.
- Implementing fire procedures and team safety procedures.
- Ensuring Health and Safety compliance and enforcing food hygiene regulations.
- Contributing to our ongoing development projects to create exciting new food and beverage concepts.
Please note, this is a full-time salaried role working 40 hours per week. The skills you'll be sharing with us:
- Proven leadership and management skills.
- Excellent time management and delegation skills.
- 3+ years in a senior management position, within a hotel or restaurant.
- IT literacy in Microsoft Office systems.
- Accountability and proactive problem-solving under pressure.
- A broad knowledge of wines and ingredients, with a particular passion for Scottish and locally sourced, sustainable foods (desirable).
- An eye for profit margin, and an operational approach to effective budgeting.
- Experience of overseeing multi-outlet venues.
- Previous experience of managing, leading and training a large team.
- A strong working knowledge of HR procedures (essential).
- A passion and exquisite understanding of hospitality.
- A proven track record of consistently achieving financial targets.
- A WSET qualification or equivalent (essential).
- A First Aid certificate (essential).
- Experience with weddings, events and private dining experiences.
- Barista experience, ideally within a fast-paced food-service environment.
- A genuine care for our team and our wider community and environment.
