We are looking to add a new Lead Document Controller employee located in either Castle Mills, Kendal or Blackburn. The role reports to the Head of Projects and involves developing work instructions and procedures for Document Control, managing a team of Document Controllers, serving as the main point of contact for client queries, resolving discrepancies, liaising with project teams, and ensuring efficient documentation flow and compliance while providing regular status updates and maintaining confidentiality.
Typical day
- Develop and document Document Control work instructions, workflows, and procedures.
- Manage Document Control operations and the team of Document Controllers, both in‑office and on‑site.
- Serve as the primary contact for client queries related to Document Control and delegate tasks as needed.
- Resolve discrepancies and system issues, ensuring timely problem resolution.
- Collaborate daily with the Projects team and the Document Controllers.
- Liaise with clients and external vendors to support documentation needs.
- Review and update technical documents, including manuals and workflows, with team input.
- Establish and maintain document workflows and approval processes.
- Conduct training and communicate documentation requirements to internal teams.
- Prepare regular and ad‑hoc project reports while seeking improvements in document management efficiency.
Experience and skills
- Good people‑management skills and some relevant experience.
- Ability to converse clearly & concisely with Senior Project Managers and the team.
- Proficient in learning and self‑managing online document platforms.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to organise own workload, use initiative, and lead as well as support the Document Control team.
- Confident under pressure and able to handle multifaceted objectives.
- High level of organisation with efficient, thorough working methods.
- UK driving licence to travel between sites; occasional client meetings may be required.
- Eligible to work in the UK.
