We are looking for a skilled Senior BI Data Engineer to join our team and support the design, development, and optimisation of our enterprise data platform in Microsoft Fabric. In this role, you will be responsible for building and managing scalable data solutions within a modern Lakehouse architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers). Your work will ensure that high-quality, reliable data is available to enable impactful reporting, analytics, and business insights. The Senior BI Data Engineer role is remote-based, with occasional travel to sites.
What a typical day looks like:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines in Microsoft Fabric using pipelines, Dataflows Gen2, and notebooks
- Integrate and consolidate data from multiple enterprise sources (ERP, CRM, APIs) into a centralised Lakehouse platform
- Develop and manage Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers, ensuring data is structured, clean, and business-ready
- Transform and prepare datasets using SQL and PySpark, ensuring high data quality and usability
- Monitor pipelines and proactively troubleshoot data issues, failures, and anomalies
- Implement and maintain data quality frameworks to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness
- Optimise data pipelines and storage for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency (e.g. partitioning, incremental loads, Delta/Parquet)
- Collaborate closely with BI Developers to support reporting, semantic models, and analytics use cases
- Work with stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into effective data solutions
- Ensure compliance with data governance, standards, and documentation practices
The experience we’re looking to add to our team:
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field
- Over 5 years of professional experience
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric or similar platforms (ADF, Synapse, Databricks)
- Strong SQL and Python / PySpark skills
- Background in data pipeline development and orchestration
- Knowledge of Lakehouse architecture (Bronze / Silver / Gold) and data modelling
- Experience with Power BI datasets / semantic models and end-to-end BI processes
- Understanding of data quality, governance, and optimisation practices
