Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys developing high precision products from concept through to prototype and manufacture? We're working with an innovative engineering company developing advanced scientific instrumentation and are looking for a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing R&D team. This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging projects where you'll design precision mechanical components and assemblies, develop prototypes, solve complex engineering problems and help bring new products from concept into manufacture.

The Role

You'll work as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, taking ownership of mechanical design activities throughout the product development lifecycle. Responsibilities will include:

  • Designing precision mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD.
  • Developing prototypes and supporting testing, evaluation and design improvements.
  • Producing manufacturing drawings, BOMs and engineering documentation.
  • Working closely with manufacturing to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable.
  • Collaborating with electronics, software and physics teams during product development.
  • Supporting supplier selection and component sourcing where required.
  • Contributing to continuous product improvement and new technology development.

About You

We're looking for someone with experience in mechanical design within a precision engineering, scientific instrumentation or advanced manufacturing environment. You'll ideally have experience with:

  • Mechanical design of precision products or instrumentation.
  • 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Creo or similar).
  • Tight tolerance mechanical design.
  • Prototype development and product testing.
  • Manufacturing drawings and Bills of Materials.
  • Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
  • Working with machining, fabrication or precision manufacturing processes.

Experience within scientific instrumentation, optics, photonics, semiconductor equipment, vacuum systems, robotics, medical devices, metrology or other high precision engineering sectors would be particularly advantageous.
