The Reconciliations Analyst is responsible for providing effective reconciliations and custody control support, ensuring the accurate and timely completion of daily and periodic client money and custody asset reconciliations. The role is responsible for overseeing assets held and client money held in the firm’s bank accounts and outsourced client arrangements, ensuring compliance with FCA CASS 6 and CASS 7 requirements, internal policies and industry best practice. The role requires the investigation, escalation and resolution of reconciliation breaks and CASS operational issues, maintaining robust records to support regulatory reporting, management information, governance, and audit requirements. The Reconciliations Analyst will also support the ongoing development of systems, controls and processes to enhance reporting capabilities, strengthen the control environment, improve process efficiency and support business change initiatives impacting Reconciliations and Custody Control activities.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct internal and external client asset and client money reconciliations in accordance with FCA CASS 6 and CASS 7 requirements and internal policies.
  • Produce daily and periodic client money and custody asset reconciliations accurately and within prescribed deadlines.
  • Ensure all daily Client Money Reconciliations are completed accurately and on time, maintaining ongoing compliance with FCA CASS requirements.
  • Ensure asset shortfalls are identified, investigated and funded within required timeframes.
  • Monitor the allocation of client money and ensure funds are allocated within FCA prescribed timelines.
  • Monitor client money balances and diversification requirements, processing transfers where necessary to maintain compliance with internal policies.
  • Investigate, resolve and escalate reconciliation breaks, discrepancies and CASS operational issues in accordance with established procedures and escalation frameworks.
  • Maintain robust, complete and auditable records supporting reconciliations, regulatory reporting and governance requirements.
  • Perform oversight and control activities relating to custody assets and client money safeguarding arrangements.

Regulatory reporting, governance & audit

  • Support compliance with FCA CASS 6 and CASS 7 obligations and internal control requirements.
  • Collate information required for the preparation and submission of the Client Money and Assets Return (CMAR).
  • Produce management information (MI) relating to cash and asset reconciliations, reconciliation breaks, ageing items and key control metrics.
  • Support internal audits, external audits and the annual CASS audit by providing evidence, analysis and reconciliations documentation.
  • Ensure procedures, process documentation and control records remain accurate, up to date and aligned with regulatory requirements.
  • Support the ongoing development and enhancement of internal systems used for reconciliations, reporting and custody control activities.
  • Participate in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and system testing relating to reconciliation processes, regulatory requirements and operational change initiatives.
  • Support cross-functional business projects, assessing and implementing changes impacting reconciliations, custody control and CASS processes.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen controls, improve reporting quality, automate manual processes and increase operational efficiency.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives designed to enhance the overall control environment and client asset protection framework.

The Candidate

  • 2-3 years reconciliations experience – Cash Reconciliations or Asset Reconciliations within a financial services environment.
  • Experience gained within wealth management, investment management, brokerage, platform operations or Financial Services Operations.
  • CASS 6 & 7 knowledge.
  • Experience investigating and resolving reconciliation breaks and exceptions.
  • Experience producing management information and supporting audit and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Competent in all MS Office products - especially Excel.
  • Intermediate Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, lookups) to support investigation, reporting and MI production.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure and meet regulatory deadlines.
  • Strong organisational & prioritisation skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Proactive approach to issue identification and resolution.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on process enhancement, control effectiveness and operational efficiency.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
