Principal responsibilities include working directly with young people in a home-like setting, developing a therapeutic, professional, and caring relationship to ensure that their physical, psychological, social, and emotional needs are met. Responsibilities also include:
- Accompanying young people to appointments, meetings, holidays, and outings where appropriate.
- Working in partnership with young people and their families/significant others to build, maintain, and support relationships.
- Assisting in the development of educational plans and supporting participation in recreational activities.
- Participating in daily handovers, team meetings, care planning meetings, and other required meetings.
- Ensuring relevant information pertaining to young people is appropriately handed over to colleagues/management during handovers and before the end of shifts.
- Undertaking key worker responsibilities, ensuring that young person’s files are kept up to date and being a key contact for their network.
- Managing and overseeing daily petty cash, ensuring proper recording of receipts and safe keeping of monies and valuables within the home.
- Complying with relevant Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Participating in training and continued professional development through probation and appraisals.
- Fostering good working relationships with professionals from other disciplines and agencies.
- Keeping accurate and up-to-date records and reports regarding individual young people and daily activities of the home.
- Informing line management of any concerns related to the welfare of young people and any safeguarding concerns.
- Reporting any concerns regarding the behaviours or conduct of other staff to line management.
- Participating in formal supervision with line management in accordance with Ann’s Children’s Care policy and procedures.
- Carrying out general housework and preparation of meals, involving the children as appropriate.
- Participating in shift patterns which may include evenings, weekends, and sleepovers, with potential waking nights depending on the needs and risks presented by the young people.
Qualifications Required:
- Level 7 qualification (degree) or above in one of the following: Social Care, Social Work, Health and Social, Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy, Youth & Community, Teaching, Nursing, Social Science, Addiction Counselling, Counselling/Psychotherapy, Family Support, Disability Studies, Applied Behavioural Analysis, Early Years Care.
- Level 8 qualification (Honours degree) or above in Psychology.
- Other qualifications: Higher Certificate in Custodial Care (Irish Prison Service).
Experience Required:
- Full clean driving licence.
- Experience of working with children and young people in care and/or in a residential setting is desirable but not essential.
- Ability to work in regulated activity, care for, and supervise young persons.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances, shift patterns, and expectations.
