Responsibilities of the role include:
- Consistently monitoring and leading the standard of care delivered by care home staff to ensure it is at optimum levels.
- Ensuring that all residents receive quality medical and personal care and that care plans are fully maintained.
- Monitoring the wellbeing of each resident, being aware of any changes impacting care and ensuring new needs are met.
- Acting as a focal point for contact with residents, their relatives, visitors, and health and social care professionals.
- Supporting the Home Manager in implementing policies, procedures, and business objectives.
- Managing the Home in the absence of the Home Manager/Deputy Home Manager.
- Conducting staff supervisions and appraisals in line with company policy.
- Encouraging staff attendance at relevant meetings.
- Marketing the Home to existing and potential residents and developing links with other care providers.
- Ensuring all staff are trained on safe systems of work including Manual Handling and fire safety evacuation procedures.
- Understanding personal responsibilities in relation to the Health and Safety at Work Act.
- Assisting in the completion of all resident documentation in line with regulations.
- Carrying out general nursing duties including maintaining peg tubes, catheter care, changing dressings, and administering medication.
- Ordering repeat prescriptions and handling resident medication in line with company policy.
- Maintaining high standards of care practices within the home.
- Reporting any incidents affecting the wellbeing, safety, or welfare of residents to the Home Manager.
- Assisting residents to live as normal a life as possible.
- Assisting in all aspects of personal care including toileting, dressing, eating, and personal hygiene.
- Completing relevant documentation and reports during shifts.
- Maintaining a safe and healthy environment and demonstrating safe practice.
- Ensuring attendance at mandatory training courses to maintain skills and knowledge.
- Supporting the equality, diversity, and rights of Residents, Carers, and Colleagues.
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation.
- Abiding by ‘The Nursing Homes Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2005’ and associated standards.
- Performing any other related duties as needed.
Essential Criteria:
- Registered Nurse Qualification.
- 5 years post-registration experience with at least 2 in the last 3 years in a similar care setting.
Desirable Criteria:
- Relevant experience managing a team within a care home setting.
- Understanding of clinical governance.
- Experience of coordinating and managing residents' care plans and risk assessments.
- Experience of handling clinical incidents and complaints.
- Supervision and managerial experience.
- Effective leadership and organisational skills or level 5 Management qualification.
- IT skills.
