The Learning and Teaching Assistant (LTA) at our preschool is essential in supporting the well-being, learning, and development of children. The LTA collaborates closely with teachers, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment, in line with international standards.
The key areas include Learning Support, Special Programmes and Resource Management. The LTA also functions as a teacher aid/co-teacher in areas such as teaching, care for the children, after-school activities (CCAs), morning/recess/lunch duties, activities and school events. The LTA is to carry out their specific scope as assigned by the school.
Core Responsibilities- Student Care: Attentively monitor and support children’s learning, well-being, and development.
- Safety: Ensure the safety of students and colleagues at all times.
- Confidentiality: Maintain the confidentiality of school and HR information.
- Resource Management: Use school resources responsibly and avoid personal use.
- Be open to feedback and willing to learn and contribute.
- Ask constructive questions and maintain a positive attitude.
- Show initiative in assisting teachers and colleagues.
- Provide care by being attentive to children’s needs and guiding them in learning and independent skills.
- Morning Duty: Receive children, ensure proper attire and grooming, and teach children how to greet others. Apply sunblock and insect repellent as needed. Assist teachers with classroom tasks and guide children in completing their work. Oversee student movement between classes and maintain classroom order. Be punctual and ensure smooth transitions between lessons.
- Toileting/Showering/Hygiene: Oversee and assist with toilet routines, handwashing, and hygiene practices. Potty train toddlers and ensure children’s privacy during shower time.
- Meal/Lunch Time: Ensure children wash hands and eat properly. Supervise tooth brushing and avoid sharing personal food with children.
- Nap/Rest Time: Monitor children during nap time and avoid using mobile phones while children are awake. Supervise library visits for kindergarten students if requested by parents.
- End of Day: Clean and tidy the classroom, materials, and toys/resources. Ensure students take home phonics words, homework, and reading books. Monitor and replenish student stationery and assist in collecting class supplies. Ensure children are fetched by the correct guardians and assist security during pick-up time.
- Be aware of children’s allergies and manage them carefully. Take sick students to the nurse and follow proper procedures for seizures. Do not allow children to go to the sick bay alone, and report any medication found in children’s bags.
- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to support the delivery of the curriculum. Assist in the preparation and delivery of instructional materials and activities (e.g. photocopy, laminate, filing, preparation, etc). Support individualised instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students. Take photographs to capture children’s moments and support teachers in marking attendance. Provide learning support and co-teach with teachers when appropriate.
- Regularly read and respond to emails and use Slack for communication with colleagues. Ensure your photo is available on Slack for identification. Maintain open communication with teachers and staff.
- Adhere to health and safety policies and procedures. Participate in emergency drills and respond appropriately to emergencies.
- Promote an inclusive environment that respects and values diversity. Support the integration of multicultural perspectives in the classroom.
- Ensure all children’s items are labelled and take care of school property. Save electricity and paper and follow instructions given by teachers. No usage of mobile phones when on duty and in front of children. Contribute to a positive school culture and community. Ensure student safety and well-being during after-school activities. Collaborate with instructors and engage students in activities. Assist with academic support and behaviour management. Prepare materials for activities and maintain accurate attendance records. Communicate effectively with parents and demonstrate flexibility in handling unexpected situations. Set a positive example for students and bring creativity to activities. Ensure the activity area is clean and organised after sessions and take monthly photos of students.
- Assist in ensuring the safety and proper supervision of children during bus rides.
- Engage in continuous learning and professional growth. Stay informed about current educational practices and methodologies.
- Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field is preferred.
- Professional Qualifications: Relevant certifications in early childhood education, special education, or related fields are advantageous.
- Experience: Experience working with children in an educational setting. Experience in supporting teachers with classroom management and instructional delivery. Experience with special education needs (SEN) is beneficial.
- Skills: Communication Skills: Proficiency in English (both written and spoken); proficiency in Vietnamese is required. Ability to effectively communicate with children, parents, and staff. Classroom Management: Ability to assist in managing a classroom environment. Skills in guiding and supporting students’ behaviour and learning activities. Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with teachers and other staff. Patience, empathy, and a caring attitude towards students. Organisational Skills: Ability to organise educational materials and resources. Strong time-management skills to handle multiple tasks effectively.
