Trainee Calibration Engineer – Poole – £28,000 – £35,000 PA
Do you have experience working in precision engineering whether this be from a machining, inspection or quality background? If so this Trainee Calibration Engineer position could be absolutely perfect for you!
Working with a business on the outskirts of Poole this job would provide full training and career progression for the right person. As part of an inhouse metrology lab team you will be learning off a team of experienced calibration engineers and tech leads who will upskill and shape your skills in the world of precision measuring equipment.
Trainee Calibration Engineer’s Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the calibration of dimensional measurement instruments to national/international standards under the guidance of senior engineers
- Support the preparation of calibration certificates and test reports, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
- Work closely with quality and inspection teams to understand measurement techniques and interpret technical drawings and tolerances
- Maintain and organise calibration equipment, ensuring correct handling, traceability, and upkeep of calibration logs
- Participate in on-the-job and formal training programs, gradually developing the skills to carry out independent calibration activities
Skills & Experience Required as a Trainee Calibration Engineer:
- Background in quality inspection or precision engineering, ideally with experience using measurement tools such as micrometers, vernier calipers, or CMMs
- Strong attention to detail and methodical approach, especially when handling technical documentation and measurement tasks
- Understanding of engineering drawings and geometric tolerances (GD&T) is highly desirable
- Eagerness to learn and develop within metrology, with a genuine interest in measurement science and calibration processes
- Reliable and organised, with good communication skills and the ability to work independently or within a team environment
