The Role

You’ll play a key role in the design, development and verification of embedded software used within safety-critical autonomous systems. Working across the full software lifecycle, you’ll contribute to the development of high-integrity software, collaborate with specialists across architecture, verification and certification, and help deliver solutions capable of meeting the highest levels of safety assurance. Whether your background is in aerospace, defence, automotive or another safety-critical industry, this is an opportunity to work on technology that is pushing the boundaries of autonomous systems.

What you’ll be doing

  • Design and develop embedded software for safety-critical autonomous platforms
  • Develop software supporting system safety, monitoring and fault-tolerant operation
  • Build high-integrity software using Ada, SPARK Ada and associated development toolchains
  • Contribute to the architecture of certifiable embedded systems
  • Work closely with verification and certification engineers throughout the software lifecycle
  • Support the development of software aligned to DO-178C and high-assurance engineering principles
  • Integrate software across mission computers, flight control systems and safety functions
  • Participate in software verification, validation and design assurance activities
  • Contribute to the evolution of next-generation autonomous platforms from concept through to deployment

What we’re looking for

You’ll have a strong background in embedded software engineering together with experience developing software within regulated or safety-critical environments. Ideally you'll have experience with:

  • Embedded software development
  • Real-time or embedded operating systems
  • High-integrity software development
  • Software verification and validation
  • Safety-critical engineering processes

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Ada or SPARK Ada
  • DO-178C
  • Aerospace, defence or autonomous systems
  • Flight control systems or avionics
  • UAV, drone or eVTOL platforms
  • ROS, ROS2, PX4, MAVLink or similar autonomy frameworks
  • ISO 26262, IEC 61508 or comparable functional safety standards
  • Model-based development or formal methods
