I'm working with a valued client to find a motivated Finance Officer to join their team.
This is a varied role, working closely with the Finance and Operational teams and supporting the business with day-to-day finance, management accounts, purchasing and cost control.
The role would suit someone who is qualified by experience, AAT qualified or working towards an accountancy qualification.
You'll need good attention to detail, strong Excel skills and an interest in understanding how finance supports the wider business.
This is a hands-on role where you'll have the opportunity to work with different teams, understand how the business operates and use your finance skills to help keep things running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Finance & Management Accounts
- Help prepare weekly and monthly management accounts.
- Make sure financial information is accurate and up to date.
- Record and allocate costs to the correct areas.
- Support the month-end process.
- Help review actual costs against budgets and forecasts.
- Help with budgeting, forecasting and cashflow information.
- Make sure labour, purchasing, stock and other business costs are correctly included in the accounts.
- Work with managers to understand the financial results.
- Support with audits and make sure supporting records are kept up to date.
- Suppliers & Cost Control
- Help with purchasing and day-to-day supplier management.
- Build good working relationships with suppliers.
- Monitor prices and terms and look for opportunities to save money.
- Keep supplier and contract information up to date.
- Keep an eye on equipment hire and make sure equipment is returned when no longer needed.
- Support the Finance Manager and Operational Managers with supplier and cost information.
- Stock & Operational Finance
- Help monitor stock levels and make sure supplies are available when needed.
- Work with the wider team to understand stock requirements and lead times.
- Keep purchasing and stock information accurate.
- Help identify differences between expected and actual costs and understand why they have occurred.
- Systems & Reporting
- Keep financial and operational records accurate and up to date.
- Use Excel and financial systems to maintain and review information.
- Produce simple reports and information for the Finance and Operational teams.
- Help improve reporting and processes where appropriate.
- Working with the Business
A big part of this role is working with people across the business.
We're looking for someone who is approachable, organised and happy to get involved.
You should be comfortable working with both finance and non-finance colleagues and be willing to understand how the business operates.
You don't need to know everything from day one. What's important is that you're keen to learn, ask questions and use your finance knowledge to help the business.
About You
- AAT qualification, be working towards an accountancy qualification or be qualified by experience.
- Some experience of management accounts or financial reporting.
- A good understanding of basic budgets and costs.
- Good numerical skills and attention to detail.
- Good Excel and general IT skills.
- Experience using finance systems or databases.
- An understanding of purchasing and working with suppliers.
- An understanding of stock, lead times and cashflow.
- The ability to spot and investigate differences in costs.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work with non-finance colleagues.
- Experience supporting audits would be useful.
- An understanding of traceability, ideally within agriculture, food production or FMCG, would be advantageous.
- A positive, practical and team-focused approach.
