To support the growth of our inpatient service we are seeking an additional dedicated Veterinary Surgeon to oversee inpatient care and manage emergency cases presenting through our Pet A&E service at our Teesside Hospital.
This role offers a stimulating and varied caseload with a strong medical focus, alongside opportunities to perform both emergency procedures and surgical emergency cases. You will play a key role in ensuring excellent continuity of care for our inpatients, while confidently handling same-day emergency presentations.
Your primary responsibility will be to meet the clinical needs of our inpatients, whilst also providing high-quality care for emergency cases as they arise throughout the day.
Our Teesside hospital opened in January 2026 and has already grown a busy inpatient caseload whilst also delivering exceptional care across first opinion, referral and out-of-hours services.
Our state-of-the-art facility has been thoughtfully designed with both patients and teams in mind. The hospital features seven consultation rooms, a dedicated end-of-life room, three theatres, separate dog and cat wards, isolation facilities, a fully equipped dental suite, diagnostics suite, and a digital X-ray room.
Built to the high standards we’re known for, the hospital will also include spacious, modern staff areas, ensuring a supportive, comfortable working environment for our teams as we continue to grow and invest in the future of veterinary care.
Core Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you’ll be:
- Highly skilled and motivated to continue developing your technical capabilities
- Confident managing complex medical cases, with some surgical experience
- A genuine team player who enjoys the buzz of a fast-paced, collaborative environment
- Compassionate and empathetic when communicating with clients during stressful situations
Desirable:
- Certificate in Emergency and Critical Care (advantageous but not essential)
Rota
- We can accept both full time and part time applicants for this role ranging from 36 - 40hrs/week
- Rota options: Variable rota options are available for this role allowing some flexibility to meet the needs of both the needs of the hospital and candidate.
- Shift times: 07:00 – 19:00 (including 1 hour unpaid lunch)
