Financial Accountant – 12 month Fixed Term Contract

Our Financial Accountant is taking maternity leave, Animal Friends is looking for a qualified Financial Accountant with strong cash-flow experience, to join us on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract.

Working closely with our Financial Controller, together you will support key accounting areas with a focus on best practice, compliance and process improvements and control.

Package: Up to £57,000 DOEwith excellent benefits including 25 holiday days (plus your birthday off), Paid day off for charity work, Group life assurance, private medical insurance, and pet insurance discount.

We are flexible on the location of this role, it can be based remotely within the UK, hybrid or based within our Amesbury office. Whatever suits you best!

What you`ll get up to as our Financial Accountant

To give you an idea what to expect, you`ll be involved in:

  • Maintaining accurate ledgers, working with Systems specialists and the business to ensure appropriate posting mechanisms are maintained in a changing environment.
  • Providing internal and external audit, tax, compliance and regulatory information (e.g. coordination and provision of ESG and KYC reporting, maintenance of company\’s register). Group reporting and liaison.
  • Managing Month-end and year-end accounting and preparation of accounts, through strong communication and teamwork.
  • Balance Sheet ownership and cashflow forecasting.
  • Regular and comprehensive reconciliations and incisive variance commentary.
  • Regulatory capital calculation and planning.
  • Creating efficient processes to provide recurring information requests. Effectively liaising within Finance and the wider business to coordinate for timely delivery.
  • Reviewing appropriateness of accounting policies and adjustments, advising in advance of the financial accounting impact of business change.
  • Maintaining an effective P2P process, providing key control checks and enabling segregation of duties. Ensure completeness of process and documentation, providing training where required and escalating as necessary.
  • Documenting financial processes whilst educating and training the business in finance procedures and systems.
  • Leading transformational process change as well as continuous improvement.
  • Additional responsibilities of an evolving finance function that meets commercial growth, business change and regulatory developments.

What we look for in you

  • QBE or Qualified accountant in ACA, ACCA or CIMA.
  • Proven experience in Financial and Regulatory Accounting.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, particularly cash flow experience.
  • Management accounts experience, particularly corporation tax with working knowledge of PSA (PAYE Settlement Agreement)
  • Methodical work approach with a keen eye for detail.

Desired:

  • Regulated industry background, ideally Insurance.
  • Prior experience of working in a Private Equity-backed or highly leveraged business.
  • Role model Animal Friends values and behaviours, with good leadership skills to be able to deputise if needed.
