The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) is an executive agency of the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, and works on behalf of the Scottish Government and Welsh Government. The aim of this role is to provide general administrative support to the Surveillance and Laboratory Services Department, which works to safeguard animal health and welfare.

Job Description

Providing various office administrative duties including, but not limited to:

  • Booking in submissions
  • Preparing reports
  • Answering telephone queries and following up on enquiries
  • Ensuring accurate records are kept and updated accordingly
  • Inputting data and information onto APHA data systems
  • Ordering stationery, laboratory and PM room consumables

Ways of Working

This post is part-time – 25 hours per week.

This post requires you to be working in the Office five days per week (5 hours per day). The successful candidate should be flexible to provide essential cover for annual leave if required.

Working time spent at a workplace may include time spent at other organisational locations, for training for example. Travel costs to non-contractual workplaces will be subject to departmental travel and subsistence policies. Travel costs to contractual workplaces are the responsibility of the employee.

As part of the application process you will be asked to complete a CV style application form, personal statement (500 words), and two behaviour statements ( 250 words each) – Making Effective Decisions and Delivering at Pace. Use the Situation, Task, Action, Result (STAR) format.

Sift

The agreed amount of time spent at a workplace for this post will reflect the requirement for Civil Servants to spend at least 60% of their working time in an organisation workplace with the option to work the remaining time flexibly from home. Working time spent at a workplace may include time spent at other organisational locations including field-based operational locations, together with supplier, customer or partner locations. This is a non-contractual agreement which is consistent with common Civil Service expectations.

Travel costs to non-contractual workplaces will be subject to departmental travel and subsistence policies. Travel costs to contractual workplaces are the responsibility of the employee.

The successful candidate is required to carry out all their duties from a UK location, and cannot do so from an overseas location at any time.

This role will be based at APHA Thirsk.

New entrants are expected to start on the minimum of the pay band.
