The Role
We are looking for a Kitchen Porter to join our Catering Team and support the daily catering operation across the Retirement Village. Working under the guidance of the Catering Manager and Chefs, you will assist in maintaining a safe, clean and efficient kitchen environment and contribute to the delivery of high standards of food service for residents, guests and staff. Your duties will include:
- Preparing vegetables, salads and sandwiches on a daily basis
- Washing, cleaning and correctly storing crockery, cutlery and kitchen utensils
- Assisting with food service at special functions and events, including food preparation and service set-up
- Maintaining clean, orderly stores and ensuring correct stock rotation
- Disposing of waste safely and appropriately on a daily basis
- Cleaning in line with COSHH regulations, including correct chemical usage and contact times
- Ensuring the kitchen remains clean, tidy and free from hazards at all times
- Completing daily temperature checks for fridges and pantry areas
- Following daily cleaning schedules and food hygiene guidelines
- Receiving, checking and storing deliveries in the correct locations
- Supporting operational needs across all catering areas when required
Person Specification
Essential:
- At least 1 year’s experience working in a catering or kitchen environment
- Ability to work efficiently in a busy kitchen while maintaining high standards
- Strong teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to follow instructions and established procedures
- Attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety
Desirable:
- Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2 (or willingness to work towards this)
Shift Patterns
07:00 – 16:00 (8-hour shift)
11:00 – 20:00 (8-hour shift)
Flexibility will be required to meet service needs.
