The role of Group Operations Manager is a key role within the organisation, and it demands both technical and managerial expertise and experience from the successful candidate. The Group Operations Manager reports to the Group Operations Director who in turn reports to the Angus Energy board of directors. The role is key to the delivery of safe and reliable operations across Angus Energy’s portfolio of onshore production facilities. The role will ensure that a culture of continuous improvement is embedded in the organisation and that operational performance improvements are delivered to the expectations of the Group Operations Director.

  • Accountable for Compliance with UK regulations
  • Responsible for Compliance with company standards
  • Responsible for Maintaining Safe Operations at sites
  • Responsible for Written Schemes of Examination
  • Responsible for Operational Improvement plans
  • Responsible for the Competency of Operations Staff
  • Responsible for Gas Nominations
  • Act as Duty Holder for all sites
  • Act as Incident Management Team (IMT) Chair
  • Act as the Custodian of Operating Procedures
  • Act as the Custodian of Operational Risk Assessments
  • Act as the Custodian of Site Permit Systems
  • Act as Incident Investigation Lead as required
  • Act as the Custodian of NSTA monthly reporting
  • Act as the Custodian of Production reporting
  • Act as a Permit Area Authority
  • Act as a Focal Point for Regulatory Interfacing
  • Provide Technical Leadership

Managing People

  • Ensure that site personnel are trained and competent.
  • Provide direction to site teams and set operational priorities
  • Provide HSE leadership to all members of the site teams
  • Coach & develop direct reports with the aim of improving individual and team performance
  • Lead regular team performance review meetings
  • Empower people to accept increased responsibility and ownership
  • Motivate people through target setting and through recognition of good performance
  • Support direct reports when dealing with people conflicts
  • Develop a ‘Can Do’ culture at all levels in the organisation

Compliance

  • Ensure Operating Procedures are always complied with through auditing
  • Ensure Permit Processes are always complied with through auditing
  • Ensure Operational Risk Assessments (ORA’s) support continued safe operations
  • Ensure people are competent to perform their duties through gap analysis and training
  • Implement Alarm Management procedures and ensure compliance
  • Ensure operational standards are maintained and ensure people are working to these standards
  • Ensure Safety Critical Equipment is maintained in accordance with UK regulations
  • Ensure resourcing levels are aligned to the timely delivery of Safety Critical Maintenance
  • Ensure delivery to an RBI based Integrity Management strategy
  • Implement improved Well Integrity Management procedures and ensure compliance
  • Ensure monthly data reporting to the NSTA is timely and compliant

Communication

  • Promote positive employee relations through open and regular communication
  • Promote a culture of safety through safety leadership and regular communication on safety
  • Ensure effective working relationships between operations and maintenance personnel
  • Build healthy relationships with the local communities
  • Liaise with regulators, local emergency services, council representatives, NSTA

Ad hoc Tasks, Responsibilities & Duties

  • Undertake any reasonable requests or tasks as directed by your Line Manager
  • Undertake training in support of fulfilling your role and to ensure competency requirements are met

Duty Manager Role

  • As a member of the IMT, you will be on call during the night and at weekends on a one week in four rota
  • You will be expected to respond to incidents at any of the Angus sites when on IMT duty

Qualifications

  • A recognised engineering qualification at Degree level or equivalent

Professional Experience

  • Experience in a similar or equivalent role within the Oil and Gas onshore industry, or a similar process industry
  • Chartered Status with current membership of a recognised Engineering Institution

Training/Knowledge

  • IT literacy and familiarity with Microsoft 365 and bespoke software (experience of MAXIMO or similar CMMS)
  • Experience of HAZOPs, HAZID, LOPA, ORA’s
  • Familiarity with Process Control Systems (DCS, SCADA, F&G)
  • Energetic and enthusiastic
  • Well versed to work in a highly dynamic environment
  • Comfort with ambiguous, ever-changing situations
  • Strong bias for action and highly motivated individual with a can-do attitude
  • Deadline-driven, result oriented, able to multi-task and delivers on the promises
  • Ability to analyse and solve problems
  • A strong leader and a team player who’s an independent thinker
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills: English (verbal and written both)
  • An established track record in delivery and improvement
  • A confident decision maker when dealing with technical challenges
  • Problem solving capability and a willingness to resolve complex issues
  • Persuasive and strong influencing skills
  • Concise written and verbal communicator to explain issues at hand clearly and effectively
  • Financial literacy to understand and add value directly
  • Previous Senior Authorised Person experience
  • Experience providing line management to a large team, in line with HR best practice
  • Familiarity with Operations & Maintenance processes and systems
