- Minimum NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in a relevant field.
- Good literacy and numeracy skills, equivalent to Level 2 in English and Maths.
- Experience of working effectively with children and young people, ideally within a primary school or educational setting.
- Experience of identifying and supporting children who face barriers to learning, including difficulties relating to behaviour, motivation, attendance, wellbeing or engagement.
- Ability to build positive, trusting and professional relationships with children and provide effective one-to-one and small-group support.
- Experience of delivering or supporting targeted interventions, setting appropriate targets and monitoring children's progress.
- A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection, with the ability to recognise concerns, maintain professional boundaries and follow school procedures.
- Ability to work positively with parents and carers, building strong relationships and involving families in supporting their child.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, senior leaders and external agencies to ensure children receive appropriate support.
- An understanding of SEND, inclusion and the importance of removing barriers so that all pupils can participate successfully in school life.
- Good communication, organisation and record-keeping skills, including the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
- A calm, patient and nurturing approach, alongside the ability to maintain high expectations for children’s behaviour, engagement and achievement.
- A commitment to equality, inclusion and safeguarding, and a willingness to undertake relevant training and continuing professional development.
