This is an exciting opportunity with our client, a specialist Tax and M&A-focused Underwriter. As the business continues to expand, our client is seeking an experienced tax lawyer or consultant with a strong background in UK and/or international tax to join their London-based underwriting team.
This role is ideally suited to tax lawyers or tax advisory professionals who are looking to transition away from traditional practice and apply their technical expertise in a commercial, deal-driven underwriting environment. You will work closely with M&A transactions, assessing tax risk and structuring bespoke tax insurance solutions for complex deals.
This is a unique opportunity to move into the fast-growing Tax Insurance market, combining technical tax analysis with commercial decision-making in an entrepreneurial and collaborative setting.
Responsibilities- Assess and respond to incoming enquiries from clients, brokers, and other transaction stakeholders
- Apply tax technical knowledge to analyse, evaluate, and underwrite M&A and transactional tax risks
- Review tax opinions, transaction documentation, and advisor reports to inform underwriting decisions
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, legal advisors, and market counterparties
- Build and continuously enhance market knowledge of Tax and M&A Tax insurance products
- Manage assigned underwriting projects while contributing to wider team initiatives
- Deliver individual performance aligned with the firm’s growth and commercial objectives
- Ensure all underwriting and client interactions are conducted with integrity, professionalism, and commercial awareness
- Experience gained at a law firm, Big 4 consultancy, or similar professional services environment, with a focus on M&A tax or transactional tax matters
- Strong experience operating in fast-paced, deal-oriented environments with multiple stakeholders
- Excellent analytical, commercial judgment, and decision-making skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with senior advisors and clients
- A genuine interest in transitioning into tax underwriting and the insurance industry
- Ability to build long-term professional relationships and contribute to business development
- No prior insurance or underwriting experience required — full training will be provided
