We are working with a market leading insurance Broker seeking an Energy lawyer in London. It is entering an exciting period of exponential growth. This position is a great opportunity to join a growing company and gain exposure to all facets of the insurance industry.
What is the role?
This is an opportunity with a market leading broker for an experienced Energy Lawyer to build a career in the Insurance industry whilst still utilising their legal experience.
What will you be doing?
- Develop client relationships with major energy and infrastructure companies, investors, contractors, developers, and project owners.
- Lead insurance programmes for large and complex energy and infrastructure risks.
- Assess and manage risk, identifying exposures such as property damage, business interruption, construction delays, liability, environmental risks, cyber threats, and natural catastrophes.
- Design insurance solutions tailored to individual projects, assets, companies, or portfolios.
- Lead insurance placements, negotiating coverage, pricing, deductibles, limits, and terms with insurers and reinsurers.
- Manage major renewals, ensuring clients receive competitive coverage and appropriate protection.
- Oversee project insurance for large developments such as offshore wind farms, solar farms, power stations, pipelines, airports, railways, ports, and other infrastructure.
- Advise clients on risk strategy, including how to transfer, retain, mitigate, or finance different risks.
- Negotiate with underwriters and use market relationships to secure favourable terms for clients.
- Develop new business, identifying prospective clients and opportunities within the energy and infrastructure sectors.
- Prepare and present proposals to prospective and existing clients, often involving senior executives and boards.
- Set commercial strategy, including revenue targets, growth plans, client segmentation, and market priorities.
- Mentor and manage junior staff, helping develop account executives, brokers, and analysts.
What do you need to apply?
- 3 years+ of Energy and Infrastructure legal experience from a reputable law firm(s) or equivalent in-house role.
- Strong understanding of renewable transaction dynamics and contract negotiations.
- Ambitious, commercially minded, and a strong team player.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deal-driven environment without compromising on quality.
