Operating as a global team, Risk Operations adopts a \”Follow the Sun\” operating model. Its key responsibilities include Know Your Counterparty (KYC) onboarding and review processes, financial trade validation, regulatory trade reporting, as well as master data management and governance.
Purpose
The Risk Operations Specialist (KYC) will execute and continuously enhance risk management controls across Financial Trade Operations, Master Data Management, Data Governance, and Know Your Counterparty (KYC), Counterparty Due Diligence and governance of counterparty data. This role ensures consistent, high-quality execution of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and key controls within Risk Operations, safeguarding operational integrity and regulatory compliance. By proactively identifying process improvements and embedding industry-leading practices, the Specialist will drive efficiency, strengthen control effectiveness, and contribute to the resilience of global risk operations.
Performance & Delivery
- Schedule, supervise and execute Risk operations BAU activities with a focus on Counterparty onboarding and Review.
- Conduct ongoing KYC verification on new and existing counterparties as required, including continuous adverse news screening and respond to incoming external KYC requests
- Govern creation, maintenance and review of counterparty data, user accesses and reference data in alignment to our processes and policies
- Act as the data steward for Counterparty data, ensuring policies, ownership, lineage, and controls are followed.
- Maintain SOPs and workflow instructions current and auditable.
- Perform timely reviews of KYC processes and controls aimed at (1) maintaining alignment to risk profile, (2) alignment to data governance principles, (3) improving the overall efficiency, (4) proposing automation and system enhancement opportunities and (5) adapting them to changes to the business environment and (6) benchmarking them against industry best practices.
- Support data owners throughout the implementation of the group data policy and providing best practices to monitor data quality and maintain the data asset registry
- Monitor KPIs/KRIs for data accuracy, timeliness, completeness, and control performance.
- Deliver training to all Marketing employees on their responsibilities in relations to Risk Operations controls through the provision of an annual training plan (online and face to face), regular written and face to face communications
- Support the Risk Operations analysts as a first escalation point for exceptions or higher risk / complex cases.
- Proactively investigate data and operational issues; lead root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions
- Understand the T+0 trade capture checks, confirmations, margining and broker fee reconciliations / invoicing and assure completeness, accuracy and timeliness of daily Financial Trades Regulatory Reporting submissions and resolve breaks and root causes.
Compliance
- Adherence to all Anglo American Group and Marketing policies and procedures, as well as observing proper standards of conduct relating to the role.
- Fluent written and spoken English is a pre-requisite
- Mandarin / Portuguese / Spanish would be beneficial
- Bachelor\’s Degree or higher in a Science related field, Business or Finance.
- Excellent understanding of the KYC/AML rules and regulations
- Experience in trading or commercial environment preferred. Basic understanding of financial transactions, processing and governance/controls is preferred.
- Experience with CTRM and ERP and / or environments with multiple key systems is beneficial.
- Experience within a complex organisation across different countries and jurisdictions, cultures, interfacing with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience in Excel, SQL or any other data management language is preferred
- Strong attention to detail, meticulous, organized and proactive
- Results and customer service oriented, capable of holding self and others to account on delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and operate in ambiguous situations. Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and effectively navigate the organization to identify where expertise resides.
