The purpose of Group Tax is to preserve and grow Anglo American plc shareholder value through the responsible, coordinated and professional management of the Group’s tax affairs, always in compliance with the law. The Group Tax team strives to be a world class, dynamic, flexible, empowered global tax team collaborating to contribute to the commercial success of the Group and delivering sustainable value.
The purpose of this role is to support the UK and Europe Tax Manager in the delivery of tax advisory, compliance, reporting and policy support to local businesses and to do so with a global perspective, focussed on aligning the tax profile of the Group to its global footprint including through delivery of global Group tax priorities and initiatives. The UK and Europe Tax Specialists play a key role in ensuring that the Tax Governance Framework is fully implemented and embedded across all aspects of tax work performed locally, such that tax risk is effectively managed.
Each of the UK and Europe Tax Specialists has responsibility for supporting a discrete business: primarily Marketing, Crop Nutrients or Corporate North, whilst also working collaboratively as a UK and Europe Tax team and supporting other discrete initiatives and projects.
The Work- Compliance, reporting and governance
To support the UK and Europe Tax Manager and the UK and Europe Tax Principal in the implementation of the Board approved tax strategy and the management of the Group’s tax affairs for all local managed companies. Ensure tax issues and changes in business are captured appropriately in global and local tax compliance and reporting. Delivery of the compliance requirements, across the compliance cycle and across all taxes, in collaboration with co-source providers. Delivery of the tax reporting obligations, to ensure responsible management of ETR and cash tax for the respective Business and in the region. Assist with adherence to transfer pricing policies and procedures and to ensure compliance with local transfer pricing regulations including master file, local file and country-by-country obligations. Support tax audits, disputes and tax litigation within the region. Evaluate, assess and manage the in‑country tax risk in line with the Anglo American Tax Risk Management Policy.
- Business Partnering
Provision of advice on day‑to‑day tax matters for the relevant Business. Champion ways of working which result in strong collaboration with other parts of Group Tax as well as the local business and the global business. Support the development and maintenance of relationships with key personnel within the business and ensure they understand the strategy, tax risk framework and vision of group tax. Help to embed Group Tax as a valued partner in the local business, positioning Group Tax to have a forward looking posture through presence in relevant committees and other forums that it uses to influence and shape decision making in the local business. Help to deliver the provision of tax advice on transactions, including acquisitions and disposals. Help to develop and enhance relationships with tax authorities, with a view to establishing ways of working that are consistent with the ethos of Co‑operative Compliance. Help to liaise with outside advisors (incl. auditors, legal, investment bankers and other advisors) to ensure proper and efficient tax planning, business partnering and solutions. Monitor external developments and determine appropriate action.
Qualifications- Either a Chartered Accountant or equivalent accounting or legal degree
- High degree of commercial acumen
- Strong working experience of tax advisory, tax compliance and tax accounting.
- Good experience of international tax principles, transfer pricing, tax residence etc.
- VAT and employment tax experience advantageous
- Utilising efficient work practices
- How to work independently and prioritise and deliver own projects
- Good accounting practices
- Experience interacting with Executives would be an advantage
