Working within a dedicated product team as part of De Beers Science and Technology, you will be a core part of a multidisciplinary development team. You will use your creativity, passion, and development skills to deliver value to our customers through the innovative technology solutions you create. Working out of our purpose-built facility in Maidenhead, you will work in an agile manner supported by industry experts, utilising lean build-measure-learn methodologies to solve the business problems that really matter. The purpose of the role is to design, test and implement electronic designs and systems from concept through to production.
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement and test electronic designs and systems from concept through to production.
- Electronic design capture and PCB layout using Altium.
- Hardware development using embedded microprocessors.
- Experience with motor control both DC motors and Stepper Motors.
- Design to meet regulatory standards - EMC, Safety and RoHS.
- Design and documentation of cable forms and product wiring.
- Firmware development in embedded C/C++.
- IT literate and familiar with PC and networking technologies.
- Provision of 2nd line technical support during different phases of a project.
- Experience in project team environment of peer review, progress reporting and meeting targets.
- Design and development of integrated hardware and control systems.
- Work with team members to develop integrated automation hardware for manipulation of diamonds.
- Use your ingenuity and engineering skills to design and test hardware solutions to defined automation problems.
- Integrate system elements such as collaborative robots, motors, microcontrollers and pneumatics.
- Utilise relevant rapid prototyping, development, and simulation techniques to create your designs.
- Work with mechanical and software team members to integrate solutions into overall technology and processes.
- Responsible for development across the entire product development lifecycle.
- Responsible for test specifications of both PCBs and Systems as well as all necessary production documentation.

- Responsible for ensuring best practice operating procedures are in place to keep yourself and colleagues safe.
- Work with relevant accountable safety personnel to ensure electronics associated safety regulations are followed by team.
Qualifications:
- Collaborative team-player with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Qualified to degree or higher in electronics, or related discipline.
- Electronic design capture and PCB layout using Altium.
- Experience in integrating hardware, software, and control systems.
- Focused on developing high quality electronics and systems; continuously improving development tools and processes.
- Experience with designing with embedded microprocessors, Ethernet, USB and other serial interfaces, DC and Stepper motor control.
- Experience with Design for manufacturability and design for testing.
- Experience with Low Voltage Directive Radio Equipment Directive and Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive is desirable.
- Design and documentation of cable forms and product wiring.
- Firmware development in embedded C/C++.
- Version control systems.
- IT literate and familiar with PC and networking technologies.
- Experienced at working in an agile multi-disciplined team-based R&D environment.
- Familiar with peer review and presentation of technical work.
- Experience with working to relevant electronic, automation and robotics safety standards.
- Ability to capture, analyse, and understand data generated through experiments.
- Believes in continuous learning and staying abreast of latest technologies.
