Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking a Civil Engineering Team Manager to provide technical leadership, people management and engineering excellence across our Civil Engineering Team. This is a senior role within the Engineering Team, responsible for leading the design and assurance of civil engineering solutions across water and water recycling projects. You will act as a subject matter expert, supporting multidisciplinary project teams from feasibility through to construction, ensuring solutions are safe, compliant, sustainable and deliver best whole-life value. You will also mentor and develop engineers with varying levels of experience while supporting the continuous improvement of engineering standards and practices. The role is hybrid, predominantly office-based with occasional site and supplier visits.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and civil engineering expertise across a wide range of assets, including pipelines, pumping stations, reservoirs, earthworks and large-scale civil infrastructure.
- Lead, manage and develop a team of Civil and Pipeline Engineers, overseeing performance, capability development and wellbeing in line with Anglian Water policies.
- Accountable for engineering excellence, developing and applying industry and Anglian Water standards, reviewing and approving civil designs and documentation, and challenging solutions to ensure they are safe, compliant, sustainable and represent best whole-life value.
- Support optioneering, detailed design, offsite build solutions and standard products, while contributing to technical governance, design risk assessments and project reviews.
- Manage team budgets in collaboration with the Engineering Manager, support recruitment and professional development, and contribute to continuous improvement across engineering practices.
- Work collaboratively with delivery partners, operations, contractors and suppliers, providing expert input to projects, frameworks and technical standards to ensure safe constructability and value are maintained throughout delivery.
- Champion Anglian Water's Safer Every Day culture, embedding health and safety through design and driving continuous improvement in safety standards across the team.
What Does It Take to Be a Civil Engineering Team Manager?
- Significant experience in civil engineering within water, wastewater or similar infrastructure environments.
- Proven technical leadership experience, including design review, assurance and standards development.
- Experience leading, mentoring and developing engineers at different career stages.
- Strong understanding of safety in design, risk reduction and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities across complex project portfolios.
- Excellent communication, influencing and collaborative working skills.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Commitment to sustainability, low-carbon design and continuous improvement.
