Dive into a world of opportunity, and join our team! We are recruiting for a Storage Point Scientist to join our Quality, Environment and Assurance team! You will ensure that the optimum quality of water is produced from our storage points and that risks to this are mitigated ahead of time. Focusing on quality source to source, through a mixture of onsite work and using the data we have for our sites, you will be continually looking at getting the optimum quality of wholesome water out for our customers.

You'll work alongside Operational colleagues and provide scientific understanding whilst effectively challenging our storage point processes to safely store wholesome water. During reactive events you'll use your scientific knowledge and appreciation of action impacts to successfully and safely navigate them. You'll implement these actions to any water quality deteriorations so that understanding of the impact downstream can be gained.

To deliver our water quality action plan process, you will deliver the company Drinking Water Safety Planning (DWSP) approach and day to day updating of the DWSP Risk Portal. You'll effectively manage your time, balancing time on site and in the office to provide the outcomes needed for the business. You'll work from site with colleagues 4 days per week. You will be part of an out of hours standby process for the business.

Key responsibilities
  • Undertake comprehensive onsite water quality investigations following proactive or preventative triggers and ensure that water quality action plans, inputting of information into the DWSP Risk Portal and preparation of regulatory reports are prepared as required
  • Support drinking water quality aspects of reporting associated with storage point legal instruments
  • Deliver the scientific aspects of storage point maintenance programmes such as the storage point cleaning programme
  • Actively seek to optimise our assets to provide effective and optimum storage of water
  • Be the key point of contact for local operational teams for water quality risk assessment, including contribution to, and sign off of Impact Plans and management of approval of materials in contact with water as part of Operational scheme delivery
  • Provide out of hours Process scientific standby cover, being able to provide scientific advice on any asset or area of the company
  • Be working towards chartership and/or a Continuous Professional Development programme
