As a senior leader within the Sustainability Directorate, the Head of Climate Change will lead the organisation's strategic response to climate change. This role ensures long-term resilience, regulatory compliance, and credible progress on climate adaptation, decarbonisation, and energy management.
In this role, you will provide expert leadership on climate risk, Net Zero delivery, and energy strategy, embedding climate responsibility across the organisation and supporting evidence-based investment and operational decisions that protect customers, the environment, and organisational assets.
As part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) within the business unit, and as part of the wider company SLT, you will inspire and empower teams to perform at their full potential, driving strong business performance whilst influencing the policy landscape to drive significant benefits for the region we serve.
Key responsibilities:- Accountable for ensuring all legislative requirements and best practice are fully enshrined in our management systems, including our policies, standards and methodologies, and will provide assurance that we have effective climate and energy related controls in place.
- Represent the organisation as a climate change expert in sector forums, industry events, and collaborative groups, whilst building influential relationships with regulators, government bodies, and peer organisations.
- Engage directly with the Executive Committee and Board members to provide assurance and expert advice on climate and energy matters whilst gaining insight into their expectations and strategic priorities.
- Champion the importance of health, safety and wellbeing to make teams safer every day.
- Effectively lead your team to drive high performance which focuses on outputs that deliver against business priorities and creates an environment where our people are proud of the work we do.
- Champion the integration of climate and resource efficiency considerations across asset management, operations, investment planning, and enterprise strategy.
- Support and maintain the development of climate risk registers and adaptation strategies, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Encourage proactive horizon scanning, scenario modelling, and use of evidence to inform long-term risk management and organisational agility.
