We're developing long-term, place-based strategies that will transform how water resources are planned, protected, and managed for generations to come - ensuring resilience in the face of climate change, population growth, and increasing environmental pressures.
As a Hydrologist, you'll play a key technical role in supporting the development of our Water Resources Management Plan (WRMP) supply forecast. Working with complex hydrological and climate datasets, you'll analyse stochastic river flows, climate projections such as eFLaG, and modelled reservoir and system outputs from advanced water resource simulation models to provide critical insights that inform strategic decision-making.

You'll collaborate closely with teams across Water Resources, Drought Planning, and Strategic Asset Management, gaining exposure to a broad range of operational and strategic activities while contributing to innovative, future-focused solutions.
What you'll be doing
In this role, you'll use hydrological, climate, and water resource data to help shape long-term water supply planning across the region. You'll analyse complex datasets, develop and run water resource simulation models, and assess the performance of future water resource options to support strategic decision-making within the Water Resources Management Plan (WRMP).
You'll work with a range of modelling tools and approaches, contribute to wider hydrological strategies, and help improve the efficiency and quality of data processes through automation and continuous improvement initiatives. Alongside producing technical analysis and reporting, you'll collaborate with teams across Water Resources and Strategic Asset Management to support resilient, sustainable water management for the future.
You'll also play a part in regulatory reporting, data governance, and driving innovation through digital transformation and industry best practice.

What does it take to be a Hydrologist?
You'll have a degree in a relevant analytical discipline such as Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Earth Sciences or Physical Geography, ideally supported by postgraduate study in Hydrology, Water Resources, Environmental Science, Geology, or a related field.
You'll bring strong analytical and data management skills, with experience or interest in coding and statistical analysis using tools such as Python or R. Experience with GIS or watershed/geological software such as ArcGIS or QGIS would also be beneficial.
We're looking for someone who can confidently interpret and communicate complex technical information through high-quality reports and presentations, while working collaboratively across teams. You'll be organised, proactive, detail-focused, and comfortable managing dynamic workloads, with the ability to solve problems independently and contribute positively as part of a wider team.
Professional body membership or progress towards chartership would be advantageous.
