We borrow water from the environment, store it and treat it to world‑class standards to supply safe drinking water to 4.3 million customers in towns and villages from Grimsby in the northeast of our region to Milton Keynes at the south‑western tip.
As a Production Planning Support Engineer, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the right quantity and quality of water is delivered where and when it's needed. Within our Production Planning team, you will support the creation of daily, weekly and monthly operational plans, gathering and interpreting real‑time system constraints to keep our network running efficiently and compliantly.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with operational teams, planners and analysts, building a strong understanding of the network and proactively identifying risks and opportunities.
- Act as a key user of our production planning tools, helping drive continuous improvement and ensuring our plans remain accurate, implementable and responsive to change.
- Gather and monitor dynamic operational constraints such as demand, asset availability, water quality and abstraction limits.
- Support the development and delivery of accurate, actionable production plans across multiple timescales.
- Act as a super‑user of production planning tools, ensuring data is accurate and up to date.
- Monitor KPIs and system performance, identifying potential deviations and risks.
- Investigate issues, support root cause analysis and help implement mitigations.
- Work closely with operational teams to communicate plans and respond to changing conditions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of planning tools, processes and data quality.
- Support maintenance and capital delivery by contributing to operational impact planning.
Qualifications:
- Experience in an operational or engineering role, ideally within the water industry.
- Strong understanding of water treatment and distribution processes.
- Knowledge of hydraulic principles.
- Confident using complex software, data tools or models (e.g. hydraulic or planning tools).
- Experience working with operational stakeholders and influencing decisions.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify trends.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A relevant qualification or equivalent experience in engineering, science or data‑related fields (desirable).
