Who are we? Here within the @one Alliance we are a totally collaborative organisation made up of our eight partner companies (Anglian Water, Balfour Beatty, Barhale, Binnies, MMB, MWH Treatment, Skanska and SWECO) and our extended supply chain, delivering over half of Anglian Water's capital investment programme. We are gearing up for our most exciting and challenging Asset Management Period yet, known as AMP8, this will see us deliver a programme of work larger than we've ever delivered before. We'll be embarking on a new kind of project delivery focusing on nature-based solutions like wetlands and urban drainage schemes. We are driving change, empowering us to set global benchmarks and build a better environment, with the opportunity to offer enhanced growth and development to our workforce. We're looking to build on our existing teams with an environment built for career progression.

With such an exciting portfolio of projects planned for AMP8 to keep the water flowing across the region, our ability to manage our work and outperform against our customer's expectations will come under greater scrutiny. To ensure suitable designs, resources and engineering outputs are achieved we're looking for a Technical Manager to lead our Water Non-Infrastructure (WNI) team.

What will you be doing as our new Technical Manager in WNI? You will be responsible for creating and developing value-driven solutions that align with our capital investment programme outcomes and effectively manage the delivery of project designs within Water Non-Infrastructure schemes. You will lead an engineering team to deliver design solutions for a programme of clean water (potable) non-infrastructure (treatment) projects.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Design Management
    • Lead and manage engineering design delivery for a portfolio within the water non-infrastructure team.
    • Develop and oversee Engineering Project Plans encompassing scope, schedule, cost, risk, and resources.
    • Collaborate with engineering discipline leads to ensure optimal design methodologies and outputs.
    • Implement design quality procedures to ensure right-first-time philosophy adherence.
    • Manage supplier and subcontractor design input, ensuring integration and alignment with project goals.
    • Produce designs prioritising health & safety, environmental considerations, construction feasibility, and stakeholder needs.
  • Project Delivery
    • Work collaboratively with other project functions to deliver outcomes efficiently.
    • Seek opportunities to enhance affordability and value throughout the design process.
    • Support project programmes to achieve milestones and drive efficiencies.
    • Develop sustainable designs contributing to carbon reduction and natural capital enhancement.
    • Contribute to risk management and value-driven outcomes.
  • Health & Safety
    • Ensure compliance with Construction Design & Management (CDM) Regulations, managing design-related health and safety risks.
    • Identify and address health, safety, and welfare issues within the team.
  • People/Team Development
    • Provide clear leadership to the project design team, fostering a positive and inclusive environment.
    • Manage multi-disciplinary teams (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Process Engineers), including performance management and mentoring.
    • Identify competency gaps and support recruitment and development initiatives.
  • Transformation
    • Cultivate a culture of experimentation, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team.
    • Support initiatives to reduce carbon footprint and embrace digital technologies for enhanced project delivery.

A little bit about your skills, experience and behaviours: To join us on the team, you'll hold an Engineering or equivalent degree (preferable). It is essential you have experience of water-sector assets and delivering capital projects. Experience in some of the following types of projects within this programme area is essential; nitrate removal; PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) removal; taste and odour; Water Treatment Works (WTW) upgrades and return to services; potable water reservoir upgrades cleaning and maintenance; new boreholes and works at existing boreholes; supernatant return; potable and raw water pumping stations; chemical dosing. Familiarity with the design and build environment is advantageous.

With a strong appreciation of how collaboration can truly unlock complex projects, you'll be able to assess unique situations and draw upon your technical expertise to make decisive, yet safety conscious, decisions to keep projects on track. Always operating with integrity and accountability, you'll be able to build rapport and trust amongst your stakeholders and establish yourself and the team across the Alliance.
