At Anglian Water, we’re driven by our purpose, to bring environmental and social prosperity to the region we serve through our commitment to Love Every Drop. Now, we’re delivering something extraordinary. Our Strategic Resource Options (SRO) Programme will create two new, multi-billion-pound reservoirs in the East of England; securing water supplies for generations to come. This is the largest and most complex programme we’ve ever undertaken, and we’re looking for a Head of Finance – Major Projects to play a defining role in its success.
Why this role matters
This isn’t just a finance leadership role, it’s an opportunity to shape the financial strategy behind a multi-billion pound infrastructure programme that will leave a lasting legacy for future generations. You’ll sit at the heart of the Reservoirs Programme leadership team, providing strategic direction, commercial insight, and financial governance as we move from development into delivery. From securing funding and influencing regulators, to preparing for financial close and enabling world-class cost control, your work will directly impact how we deliver this nationally significant infrastructure.
What you’ll be doing
As Head of Finance, you will lead the financial strategy and performance of the Reservoirs Programme, ensuring we deliver within approved budgets while enabling long-term value. You’ll:
- Provide strategic financial leadership across the programme, shaping budgeting, forecasting and cost control.
- Own and oversee programme budgets, driving robust governance, reporting and performance management.
- Lead engagement with regulators (including Ofwat, RAPID and Defra) to secure funding and support programme outcomes.
- Prepare and present financial insight to senior leaders, executive teams and Board stakeholders.
- Drive best-in-class cost control and financial planning processes, leveraging systems and innovation to improve efficiency.
- Lead the annual business planning process, ensuring strong alignment between financial strategy, delivery plans and programme priorities.
- Partner closely with Commercial, PMO, Treasury and wider finance teams to integrate financial strategy across the programme.
- Build and lead a high-performing team, creating a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for a senior finance leader who combines strategic thinking with delivery focus, someone who thrives in complex, high-value environments. You’ll bring:
- Proven success delivering financial strategy and control within major infrastructure or capital programmes (essential).
- Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, cost control and financial governance (essential).
- Exceptional ability to influence senior stakeholders, internally and externally (essential).
- Significant experience leading large, high-performing finance teams in senior roles.
- Strong understanding of regulated environments (utilities, infrastructure, nuclear or similar).
- Experience helping complex projects move towards financial close.
- A recognised professional finance qualification and strong academic background.
- A collaborative leadership style with the ability to build trust and inspire performance.
What you’ll get in return
At Anglian Water, you’ll be part of a business that values care, courage and curiosity – where your work has real impact on people, communities and the environment. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Lead finance on a once-in-a-generation infrastructure programme.
- Work at the intersection of strategy, regulation and delivery.
