Lead Park Ranger – Grafham Water

Full Time, Permanent – Salary from £35,000 per annum. Work shift patterns vary with longer days in spring/summer and shorter days in autumn and winter.

About the Role

Grafham Water, a stunning 1,500‑acre reservoir and visitor attraction, is looking for a practical, hands‑on Lead Ranger to join our team. This rare opportunity blends team leadership with active fieldwork – from maintaining facilities and delivering high‑quality visitor experiences to supporting our renowned fishery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: supervise and work alongside the Ranger team to keep the park safe, clean, operational and well‑presented.
  • Carry out and record health and safety checks, inspections and maintenance tasks.
  • Hands‑on operations: repair and service facilities, groundskeeping, cleaning and boat maintenance; keep equipment and tools in good working order.
  • Customer engagement: welcome and assist visitors and anglers, answer questions and ensure a great experience.
  • Support events and activities: prepare and deliver park events, set up, logistical support and on‑the‑day assistance.
  • Work closely with management to deliver high standards across the park.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Full, valid driving licence.
  • Passion for Grafham Water and its activities.
  • Enjoys physical work outdoors in all seasons.
  • Strong hands‑on maintenance and practical skills (e.g. fencing, repairs, facilities upkeep).
  • Proven team leadership skills and ability to motivate by example.
  • Solution‑focused problem solver.
  • Basic IT skills – Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Customer‑focused with a friendly, approachable manner.
  • Ability to work flexibly, tackling varied jobs each day.
