About the Role

Circa £90k, salary depending on skills and experience. Permanent. Peterborough or Norwich. Hybrid working – flexible work from home, project offices, and an Anglian Water office. Your primary location will be Anglian Water's office in Thorpewood, Peterborough or our Norwich Hub. You will also visit and work from construction site locations around the region. Full time with flexibility for part‑time. 30 days annual leave, car allowance, private healthcare, bonus, and double‑match pension up to 6%.

Overview

Shape the Future of Infrastructure Delivery – Join Us as a Senior ECC Project Manager. You will take the lead on multiple projects within our capital investment programme and influence the way we deliver contract and commercial excellence. You’ll report directly to the Head of Contract Management and oversee NEC3 PSC & ECC contracts across our AMP8 Alliance Agreements. You’ll shape and deliver our Contract Management and Assurance Strategy, optimise commercial outcomes, and support a high‑performing ECC Project Management team.

What will you be doing?

  • Contract Management & Administration – Lead and oversee effective administration of NEC contracts across Tier1 Alliances. Manage a large investment portfolio, ensure contract compliance, risk management, and issue resolution. Supervise the ECC Project Management team, address escalations, and remove delivery barriers. Maintain financial records and procurement strategies.
  • Performance Management & Portfolio Governance – Monitor and report on portfolio performance, compliance, and risk at programme level. Lead governance activities, issue escalation across investment boards, and drive improvements through insights and feedback loops.
  • Influencing the Alliancing Approach – Champion a collaborative and commercially aware culture across project teams and stakeholders. Support the implementation of efficiency and improvement initiatives and align contract and commercial strategies with broader goals.
  • Leadership & Strategy – Lead and develop a high‑performing ECC Project Management team. Drive strategic initiatives, business improvements, and support wider commercial operations. Represent senior leadership in key forums and develop commercial training and assurance frameworks.

What it takes to be a Senior ECC Project Manager

  • Technical & Professional Expertise – Degree in construction, engineering, or a science‑related discipline. NEC3 or NEC4 Project Manager Accreditation. Extensive knowledge of NEC contracts, especially within construction and utilities. Strong background in commercial and contract management. Proven experience in managing large‑scale construction contracts, including governance and assurance. Skilled in dispute resolution and mediation. Proficient in Office365 and modern digital tools.
  • Leadership & Team Management – Demonstrated leadership and team development experience. Capable of mentoring, motivating, and managing individuals and teams. Strong decision‑maker with experience in business‑critical roles. Confident and robust in challenging issues and making strategic decisions.
