Anglian Water Services is seeking a dynamic and visionaryGroup Health & Safety Director to lead our Safety, Health and Wellbeing Strategy across our regulated and non-regulated businesses. This is a rare opportunity to influence safety culture at scale, driving transformation and continuous improvement across a diverse and complex organisation.

What you\’ll be doing?

As Group Health & Safety Director, you will lead the Safety, Health and Wellbeing Strategy across Anglian Water Group, including Strategic Alliances and Non-Regulated business. This senior leadership role is central to embedding a unified safety culture through a company wide cultural transformation and behavioural safety programmes and ensuring consistent, best-in-class standards across the organisation.

You’ll advise the Executive Committee on legal duties under UK health and safety legislation, and drive a multi-year transformation programme focused on behavioural change, strategic alignment, and operational excellence. You’ll lead the development of the 24-month Safer Every Day improvement plan and oversee the Capability Maturity Programme to elevate safety capability.

The role includes accountability for the corporate safety management system, performance reporting, and engagement with the Health and Safety Executive. You’ll lead a team of 90 safety professionals, ensuring effective business partnering and continuous improvement.

Externally, you’ll represent Anglian Water with regulators and industry groups, and internally, collaborate with senior leaders, unions, and contractors to embed safety and wellbeing in decision-making. You’ll also lead the Group’s Wellbeing Strategy, focusing on psychological safety, occupational health, and inclusive support for vulnerable workers.

This is a strategic, high-impact role for a leader passionate about creating a safer, healthier workplace for all.

Key duties will include:

  • Strategic leadership of health, safety and wellbeing across the Group.

  • Cultural transformation and behavioural safety programmes.

  • Risk management, incident prevention, and regulatory engagement.

  • Development of occupational health and wellbeing initiatives.

  • Coaching and mentoring of safety professionals and senior leaders.

What does it take to be successful?

  • Extensive Senior-Level Experience with a proven track record in a senior strategic Health & Safety leadership role, ideally within a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Professional Qualifications: NEBOSH or Degree in Health and Safety.
  • Proven track record in strategic change and cultural transformation.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Strong team orientated communication and influencing skills, with experience working alongside Boards, Directors, and external partners.
  • Passionate about creating a safe and healthy workplace.
