Location: The post holder will be based at Soham Village College but will be expected to work across the Trust and to travel between sites.
About the Role
The ICT Technician provides first-line technical support to staff and students, ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of IT systems across the school. The role involves diagnosing and resolving technical issues, maintaining a wide range of devices and infrastructure, and supporting teaching and learning through effective use of technology.
The postholder will manage helpdesk requests, assist with hardware and software installations, and contribute to the upkeep of central systems including networks, security, and cloud services. They will also support classroom technology, set up audio-visual equipment for events, and deliver basic training to users where required.
Working as part of a wider Technical Services Team, the ICT Technician plays a key role in maintaining high standards of service delivery, ensuring systems are secure, reliable, and fit for purpose, while supporting the Trust’s commitment to education and safeguarding.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide first-line IT support, diagnosing and resolving technical issues
- Monitor and manage helpdesk tickets, ensuring timely and high-quality responses
- Maintain and support devices including laptops, desktops, tablets, and AV equipment
- Set up audio/visual equipment for events, lessons, and meetings
- Support staff and students in classrooms and during exams
- Assist with hardware/software installations, upgrades, and device imaging
- Contribute to the maintenance of core IT systems (network, email, security, MDM, etc.)
- Maintain ICT asset registers and ensure compliance with data protection and security policies
- Deliver 1:1 training and guidance to users
Person Specification
- Experience in a technical support or helpdesk role
- Strong knowledge of Windows 10/11, Microsoft 365, and common applications
- Understanding of IT hardware, software, and basic networking
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to support non-technical users
- Organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities
- Experience in an education setting
- Knowledge of Google Workspace, MacOS/iOS, or Windows Deployment Services
- Familiarity with helpdesk systems, AV, CCTV, or access control systems
