About the role
As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise classes during the short-term absence of teaching staff, ensuring students remain engaged and supported in a calm, constructive learning environment. You will work closely with teaching staff, teaching assistants, and other cover supervisors, contributing positively to the day-to-day life of the College.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise classes in line with College policies and lesson plans
- Prepare learning environments and ensure classrooms are left in good order
- Manage student behaviour to maintain a positive learning atmosphere
- Take class registers and collect completed work for return to teaching staff
- Respond to student questions about work set
- Deal with immediate issues or emergencies in line with College/Trust procedures
- Report on student behaviour and any issues arising during lessons
- Liaise with Teaching Assistants and other Cover Supervisors as required
- Provide occasional cover for Teaching Assistants across faculties, including Student Services and the Exclusion Room
- Carry out routine clerical and administrative tasks
- Actively support safeguarding, health & safety, and equality policies
Person Specification
- GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths at grades 9–4 (A*–C)
- Previous experience working with children or young people
- Confidence managing behaviour in a classroom environment
- Strong communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Competent ICT skills (Word, Excel, school systems)
- Calm, professional approach to unexpected situations
- Commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing
- Recent experience working in a school
- Experience using GO4Schools or similar MIS
- Ability to speak a second language
- First Aid qualification (or willingness to train)
