About the Role
Do you have a clear commitment to excellence and want to inspire others? If so, we are looking for you to join our Further Education teaching team! This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong subject knowledge and practical industry experience in wildlife, conservation, countryside management, ecology or a related land-based discipline.
You will teach and support learners across Further Education programmes, helping them to develop the technical knowledge, practical skills, confidence and professional behaviours needed for progression into employment, apprenticeships or higher-level study. You will deliver engaging classroom-based and practical learning, making full use of Writtle’s rural campus, specialist facilities and outdoor learning environment. The role will include teaching topics such as habitat management, species identification, ecological surveying, conservation practice, estate maintenance, land use, machinery and equipment safety, and environmental sustainability. You will also be teaching Level 2 Horticulture as well as wildlife learners.
Responsibilities
- Teach and support learners across Further Education programmes.
- Deliver engaging classroom-based and practical learning.
- Utilise Writtle’s rural campus, specialist facilities and outdoor learning environment.
- Cover topics such as habitat management, species identification, ecological surveying, conservation practice, estate maintenance, land use, machinery and equipment safety, and environmental sustainability.
- Teach Level 2 Horticulture and wildlife courses.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Relevant and recent industry experience within the land and wildlife industry.
- Desire to educate and develop a range of learners at level 2 and 3.
- Up-to-date technical knowledge is vital to allow the sharing of best practice to both students and team members.
- Willingness to work towards the assessor and internal verifier qualifications as these will be a requirement upon appointment.
- GCSE English and Maths or equivalent to level 2.
- Vocational qualification at NVQ level 4 or equivalent.
- Appropriate endorsed teaching qualification (or required to commence studies within 1 year of employment).

All appointments at ARU Writtle are subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks, including a satisfactory Enhanced criminal records with Children’s Barred List check through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Shortlisted candidates will be required to disclose any prior disciplinary action or investigation related to sexual misconduct or abuse. This role is considered exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975, 2013 and 2020.
