Rate: Competitive Rate (Outside IR35)

The Project: Front End & UX/UI Lead to design & implement the entire user experience layer for a NATO OS, covering both web & mobile interfaces.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead UX research, define user journeys, personas, workflows, and information architecture.
  • Design intuitive UI components, visual foundations, and a robust design system.
  • Produce high-fidelity prototypes and conduct usability testing with stakeholders.
  • Create short, engaging help and training videos integrated into the product.
  • Convert approved prototypes into a production-ready front-end application.
  • Implement components, states, behaviours, accessibility, performance.
  • Integrate with headless backend systems (Strapi, Moodle, Camunda, etc.).
  • Collaborate in NATO-provided build, test, and deployment environments.
  • Define UI architecture (SSG/SSR/CSR/mobile) aligned with NATO security policy.
  • Deliver all technical artefacts required for NATO OS security accreditation.
  • Support independent penetration testing.
  • Lead project setup, governance, reporting, and stakeholder alignment.
  • Manage risks, issues, changes, and coordinate with backend & IV&V teams.
  • Produce comprehensive documentation for architecture, workflows, and integrations.

Skills Required:

  • 7+ years of front-end engineering experience (React, Vue, Angular or similar).
  • Strong understanding of API integrations & headless backends.
  • Proven experience in secure development environments (DevSecOps).
  • Architecture design for SSG/SSR/CSR/mobile approaches.
  • Deep experience with UX research, user journeys, and IA.
  • Mastery of UI design systems & prototyping tools (Figma, XD, etc.).
  • Strong usability testing experience.
  • Ability to produce short user-learning videos.
  • Familiarity with security accreditation processes.
  • Ability to produce documentation supporting NATO Office of Security assessments.
  • Experience working on complex, multi-stakeholder technical programmes.
  • Previously experience working on NATO or Defence projects is advantageous.

This role has been determined as being outside IR35. This role can be performed remotely with occasional travel.
