Who are we? We are Rail People. Since our founding in 1994, we have been helping to modernise and improve UK rail to meet the needs of today's passengers; investing more than £1.5bn over the last decade on procuring new rolling stock and refurbishing the trains we already own. You may not have heard of us, but you have almost certainly travelled on one of our trains that are leased to Train Operators across the country.
About the role: The successful candidates will enrol on our intensive two‐year Monitored Professional Development Scheme (MPDS). The scheme consists of a number of placements both internally across the business as well as externally with rail operators, maintainers, suppliers and consultancies. Successful completion of the scheme will lead to an engineering role within the business. Our MPDS is accredited by both the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). Throughout the two years you will be supported by a fully qualified mentor within the business, who will help guide your pathway towards professional registration and accreditation as a Chartered Engineer.
What will you be doing? Whilst on the scheme your primary responsibility will be to rotate through different areas of the business, as well as external businesses, to gain an in‐depth understanding of Angel Trains as a business alongside an appreciation of the wider industry and how Angel Trains fits in it alongside its stakeholders. Each placement is specifically tailored to meet the unique requirements of individual graduates and clear responsibilities are outlined before the commencement of each placement, aligning with various competency requirements defined by the IMechE and IET.
What do we need from you?
- Graduation by September 2026 with an MEng in an engineering discipline accredited by the IMechE or IET.
- A strong desire to learn and take accountability for professional and personal development.
- A strong aptitude for solving technical problems as well as experience working on projects as part of a small team either in industry or whilst at university.
- Flexible, innovative and agile approaches to problem solving, with a positive 'can do' attitude.

It's a great place to work with modern offices in London & Derby (but with hybrid working), hugely engaged colleagues, and external recognition as a "World Class Workplace". Many of our team work flexibly, we would be happy to discuss about how this could work for you.
