An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic physiotherapist to join the Children's Physiotherapy team within Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. The successful applicant will be a clinician who ideally has previously had some experience within Paediatrics and would like to continue their clinical development in this area.

We are looking for a self-motivated and forward thinking clinician who is a strong team player with the ability to demonstrate leadership qualities and excellent communication skills. Possessing a solid foundation in core clinical skills you will embrace innovation and be committed to following evidence based clinical practice.

The post will require the successful candidate to work on a rotational basis across the 3 children's centres in the Health Board - Serennu Children's Centre in Rogerstone, Caerphilly Children's Centre and Nevill Hall Children's Centre in Abergavenny. The successful candidate will be responsible for a caseload of children and young people, working within the community, clinic and education settings. The caseload will be comprised of children and young people between the ages of 0-18 and will cover all specialities. The successful applicant will be required to travel between sites within Gwent. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

  • You will be responsible for a community caseload that will be mixed speciality including going into mainstream and specialist ALN schools and you will therefore need to have a broad knowledge and some experience of treating a variety of conditions in 0-18 year olds across the specialities of development, neurology, respiratory, rheumatology, MSK, T&O and complex needs.
  • You will need to be able to communicate with education staff, members of the multi-disciplinary team and families and write appropriate reports and letters.
  • You will need to be organised, have a flexible approach and show initiative where needed and be a team player to meet the needs of the service.

Additional responsibilities will include:

  • To contribute to the implementation of changes within the work area in conjunction with other senior staff.
  • To clinically mentor and supervise support workers and rotational band 5 physiotherapists.
  • To be involved with students as a clinical educator.
  • To contribute to the delivery of the in-service training programme.
  • To actively participate in audit and service improvement.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications/Training

  • Diploma/degree in Physiotherapy.
  • Registered with Health and Care professionals Council.
  • Relevant clinical educators course or willing to undertake training.
  • Appropriate range of Post grad clinical education.
  • MCSP.
  • Active participant in relevant interest group.

Experience

  • Broad range of post grad clinical experience, including rotational experience.
  • Specific experience in specialty applied for.
  • Experience of participating in and delivering in-service training programmes.
  • Experience of supervising staff.
  • Evidence of having worked in the UK as a HCPC registered physiotherapist.
  • Evidence of having worked unsupervised.
  • Evidence of having participated in on-call and weekend duties where appropriate.
  • Previous band 6 position.
  • Experience of integrating user participation in service development.
  • Experience of facilitating learning with undergraduate students.

Skills and knowledge

  • The ability to discuss the clinical reasoning process in the management of complex cases.
  • The ability to identify and act upon adverse clinical signs.
  • Awareness of relevant national and local guidelines.
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written when interacting with members of the team, other professionals, patients and their families.
  • The ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Evidence of initiative.
  • Good time management.
  • The ability to discuss the ethos of clinical governance and its relevance in physiotherapy practice.
  • The ability to demonstrate an understanding of the NHS and the challenges facing the physiotherapy service.
  • The ability to supervise staff who will be directly accountable to the post holder.
  • Commitment to participating in clinical and organisational audit.
  • The ability to demonstrate critical appraisal skills.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development sufficient to meet HCPC requirements.
  • Appreciation of research principles and findings and the impact on clinical findings.
  • Evidence of teaching at an undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • Experience of dealing with personnel issues.
  • IT literate.

Other requirements

  • The physical ability to perform and cope with all aspects of manual handling as demanded by the role.
  • Maintain professional standards.
  • The ability to adapt to changes in work routine.
  • Available for the respiratory on-call rota and other seven day working rotas where appropriate.
  • The ability to travel between sites within the health board or patients' residences in a timely manner to meet the requirements of the post.
