Eligibility: Only staff currently employed by Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.

As an Operational Lead, the post holder will operationally manage Community Services within a defined geographical area, ensuring a person‑centred, cost‑effective, accessible and responsive service for people living with mental health conditions, cognitive changes and dementia, and their family and carers. The role supports the Senior Nurse and Directorate management team in implementing policies, protocols and national initiatives such as the Dementia Action Plan for Wales.

Responsibilities

  • Managing team performance and service quality, acting as a role model and providing clinical leadership and guidance.
  • Developing and overseeing tailored care plans with a recovery focus and monitoring progress through caseloads and supervision.
  • Implementing and supporting national and local standards and protocols related to mental health and older people’s services.
  • Coordinating change management initiatives cascaded via the Directorate Management Team.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of and experience of the Mental Health Act, Mental Health Measure, and Mental Capacity Act, clinical governance, CTP, and related legislation.
  • Knowledge of the Dementia Act, LPS, DOLS, and other relevant frameworks.
  • Understanding of clinical and managerial issues related to mental health, older people’s services, and NHS developments.

Experience

Essential Criteria: Substantial experience within a multi-disciplinary or agency service. Assessment of dementia, including use of psychometric assessments.

Desirable Criteria: Experience delivering accreditation processes and standards. Provision of therapeutic groups for people living with dementia and their carers.

Qualifications

Essential Criteria: Registered mental health nurse. Qualification in management and/or leadership.

Desirable Criteria: Masters level qualification in a relevant subject. Independent non-medical prescribing (V300). The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post.
