An exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of Urology Clinical Nurse Specialist - cystoscopy. This is a nurse led service within the urology department. The nurse cystoscopist will work autonomously, performing flexible cystoscopies and also running haematuria clinics where following a cystoscopy, they will give cancer diagnosis to patients if needed.

This is an annex 21 post so consideration will be given to candidates who do not fulfil all the person specification.

Main duties of the job:

The successful candidate will need to commit to completing an MSc and specific competencies set out by the Department. Experience in the speciality would be desirable, but not essential. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate post registration education and leadership skills. The successful post holder will be based at the Royal Gwent Hospital site. An in-house competency programme will need to be achieved.

The successful post holder will work autonomously and have own caseload and watch list while working as a team member within the Cystoscopy Urology team. They will act as a senior professional within the Urology Directorate. The post holder will be expected to provide support and development of evidence based excellent services that are fit for current and future practice, complimenting National guidelines and programmes. They will provide clinical leadership, professional advice and facilitate the professional development of nursing staff and other healthcare professionals, patients and carers.

They will promote excellent clinical practice, decision making, monitoring and setting of standards - with a high level of critical thinking and holistic practice that is evidence based. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification:
  • NMC registration Registered 1st Level Nurse
  • 1st Degree relevant to nursing
  • MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice Pathway. Cystoscopy course relevant to role (or willingness to undertake)
  • Extensive urology nursing experience, with sufficient at Band 6
  • Working towards or planning to study at Masters level.
  • Teaching qualification
  • Independent Prescriber or willingness to become a non-medical prescriber
  • Advanced Life Support Provider
  • Oncology Nursing experience
  • Relevant work related experience
  • Extensive post registration plus ward experience
  • Evidence of successful management of change
  • Experience of Urodynamic department, Urology department, urology services.
