We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and well‑motivated Band 6 Biomedical Scientist to join the team at the Microbiology laboratory in the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, based at our Royal Gwent Hospital site. We are looking to employ a suitably qualified Biomedical Scientist, who has HCPC registration, relevant experience in Microbiology and has completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio. We would also welcome applications from enthusiastic staff currently employed at Band 5 level who are currently undertaking or are willing to undertake the IBMS Specialist Portfolio and for these posts we will appoint at Annex 21. Full time, part time or job share applications will be considered.
Main duties of the job include processing a wide variety of clinical samples using both manual and automated methodology. We cover a variety of services, such as Bacteriology, Serology, Mycology, Molecular Diagnostics and Andrology. Molecular Microbiology is based at The Grange University Hospital (Cwmbran), Bacteriology, Virology and GU Medicine services are based at Royal Gwent Hospital (Newport) and Andrology is based Nevill Hall Hospital (Abergavenny) and you may be required to work at either site according to the demands of the service. There will be a requirement to work evenings, night shifts, weekends and Bank holidays on a rotational basis. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
