Responsibilities

  • Organise and facilitate drop-ins for staff and service users who are experiencing homelessness in community environments where they reside or attend.
  • Engagement is a key element of this role, and being alongside people when they are ready to engage.
  • Assess needs, including cognitive assessments, and provide appropriate sign-posting and advocacy to meet identified needs.
  • Deliver individual and group interventions within hostels and drop-ins.
  • Support the ongoing implementation of psychologically informed environments in hostels, offering team formulation, reflective practice and critical incident debriefing.
  • Involve in the delivery of G-REP, an EMDR-based approach to resilience building, to all staff working in the homeless sector.
  • Interface with NHS services and other agencies, ensuring reasonable adjustments are made and advocating for individuals.
  • Apply a trauma and attachment-informed approach to all aspects of the role.
  • Access and provide supervision and training.
  • Contribute to ongoing evaluation of the service for commissioners and other interested parties.
  • Involvement in the activities of the broader ABUHB Adult Psychology Service.

Working for our organisation

We are committed to flexible working and to enabling a supportive, inclusive environment. The post is fixed term/secondment for 9 months until 31 March 2027 due to funding. If applying for a secondment, you must obtain permission from your current line manager before applying. The role is for a Practitioner Psychologist joining an established psychology team in Adult Mental Health, with the aim of increasing access to psychological support for homeless people and the staff who work with them.

Requirements

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Experience (Essential):

  • Experience in Adult Mental Health;
  • Experience of training;
  • Experience of research.

Essential criteria:

  • Doctorate in Clinical, Forensic or Counselling Psychology;
  • Formal training in psychological approach.

Desirable criteria:

  • Experience of working with homeless people or other hard-to-reach groups.
