Overview

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB) is an NHS organisation serving the communities of Gwent with more than 14,000 staff and volunteers.

The Practice Educator will be responsible for the training, coaching and support of all staff within the Division of Surgery.

This role provides academic support for staff undertaking courses (undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development).

Clinically work alongside staff to develop skills and confidence to become competent practitioners in line with the national competency programme for nurses.

In conjunction with the Senior Nurses, annually review and develop education and training provision for staff.

Act as an expert role model in practice and provide expert clinical advice for individuals and teams.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead on educational programmes for Scheduled Care Division staff.
  • Work collaboratively in supporting training and education within the acute divisions, developing and delivering a comprehensive teaching and educational strategy in line with organisational and national guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain an effective learning environment within the acute scheduled care division through coaching and staff development in a variety of settings.

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Registered Nurse.
  • Masters level education.
  • Teaching qualification.
  • Evidence of post registration study.
  • Up to date knowledge of national agendas.
  • Knowledge of implementing change.
  • Able to apply national and trust policies to practice.
  • Excellent theoretical and practical knowledge and understanding of clinical practice.
  • Up to date with best practice guidelines.
  • Evidence of research-based practice and development.

Desirable criteria

  • Post graduate teaching qualification (PGCE). Knowledge of service delivery systems in health care.
  • Evidence of further professional development.
  • Leadership course.
  • IQT Silver.
  • Knowledge of appropriate legislation and government guidance.
  • Knowledge of service delivery systems in health care.

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Relevant Post Registration experience.
  • Evidence of both formal and informal teaching portfolio.
  • Experience of delivering education programs.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Ability to write letters, reports and policies with clarity and awareness.
  • Ability to think laterally and prioritise workload effectively.
  • Able to work across organisational boundaries.
  • Appropriate use of knowledge/evidence-based practice in written work.
  • Evidence of links with Higher Education Institutes.
  • Audit/evaluation experience.
  • Effective organisational skills.
