Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to work within an experienced innovative team within the speciality of palliative care? The Specialist Palliative Care Directorate in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board are seeking an experienced, compassionate Specialty Doctor to work in the Inpatient Unit - St David's Hospice Care working 2 days a week. The Palliative Care Directorate are based within the Primary Care and Community Division of ABUHB, providing care for patients across Gwent.

We are looking for a specialty doctor in Palliative Medicine who, under the supervision of the Palliative Medicine Consultants, will provide effective and appropriate medical care for palliative care patients within Aneurin Bevan Hospitals. We are aiming to provide cover for the service between the hours of 8:00 and 18:30, with the hours of on-site work being between 9am and 5pm and potential for off‑site/telephone on‑call cover between the hours of 8‑9am and 5‑6.30pm. Proposed job plan is attached within the JD although we are flexible.

Main duties of the job

As a senior employee of the Health Board the post holder will work in close co‑operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Health Board's patients. Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements:

  • To ensure the provision of a first class clinical service
  • To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty
  • To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate
  • To undertake all work in accordance with the Health Board's procedures and operating policies
  • To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Division's and Health Board's service plans
  • To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Medical Division or the Health Board

Job responsibilities

This position involves Regulated Activity with adults as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012) and the following checks will be undertaken following any conditional offer:

  • Enhanced check with barred list information, including Adults barred list check

Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC. Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
