About the Role:
Are you looking to start a rewarding career in healthcare support services? We are seeking motivated and reliable individuals to join our Hospital Sterilisation & Disinfection Unit (HSDU) as a Junior Decontamination Technician. In this vital role, you will help ensure that surgical instruments, endoscopes, and reusable medical devices are cleaned, disinfected, sterilised, and made ready for patient care.
Working under the guidance of Senior Decontamination Technicians and Supervisors, you will support the safe reprocessing of reusable medical devices and contribute directly to the patient treatment pathway. Duties include:
- Assisting with the decontamination and sterilisation of reusable medical devices and endoscopes.
- Inspecting, assembling, and packaging surgical instruments and theatre trays.
- Operating decontamination equipment in line with departmental procedures and manufacturer instructions.
- Accurately tracking instruments using electronic tracking systems.
- Carrying out collection and delivery duties to clinical departments.
- Supporting quality management processes and maintaining high standards of service delivery.
- Working effectively with colleagues across theatres, endoscopy, wards, and clinics.
Experience:
- Previous work experience within a healthcare setting demonstrating teamwork.
- Previous experience of working within an industry setting demonstrating teamwork.
Qualifications and/or Knowledge:
- Knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, systems, and regulations gained through induction and on-the-job training.
- Good communication in spoken and written English.
Aptitude and Abilities:
- Ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
- Basic IT skills.
- Able to retain information.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
