Job Overview

We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our Domestic Services and Ward Catering teams at the Royal Gwent Hospital to support increased demand during the winter period. As part of our Estates and Facilities team, you will play a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors. You will also support the delivery of a nutritious meal and beverage service to patients, ensuring their dietary needs are met with care and professionalism. These roles are essential to the smooth running of our hospitals and directly contribute to patient wellbeing and recovery.

Shift Patterns

  • Domestic – 07:00‑14:30 or 14:00‑18:00 over various days, including weekend working i.e. four or three shifts per week.
  • Ward Catering – 07:30‑15:30 or 17:00‑20:00 over various days, including weekend working i.e. four or three shifts per week.

These posts are fixed term until 31/03/2026 to cover service needs.

Main Duties

Domestic Assistant – Main Duties

  • Follow standard cleaning procedures to clean patient areas, wards, clinical spaces, and public areas to a high standard.
  • Follow infection prevention and control procedures.
  • Safely use cleaning equipment and materials.
  • Work as part of a team to ensure all areas are maintained to NHS cleanliness standards.
  • Report any maintenance or safety issues promptly.

Ward Catering Assistant – Main Duties

  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of patient food & beverage service for all meal and drink rounds.
  • Ensure meals are served correctly and in line with patients' dietary requirements.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in ward kitchen areas.
  • Record food temperatures and follow food safety procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and ward staff.
