Applications are invited for the post of Dental Core Trainee in Oral Surgery / Oral Maxillofacial Surgery. This is a full‑time position starting September 2026. The post is based at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, the Grange University Hospital, Cwmbran and Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny, South East Wales. Salary will be agreed commensurate with experience. The post is open to Medical FY1 and FY2 applicants. The post includes 1 in 9 night on‑call duties, with time off before and after the nights. Daytime on‑call will be spread throughout the week.

Main Duties: The department provides a modern service for the entire Gwent population of approximately 700,000. The main oral and maxillofacial unit is based at the Royal Gwent Hospital (RGH). Acute take and major inpatient maxillofacial surgery are delivered at the Grange University Hospital (GUH). Additional outpatient and minor oral surgery clinics are held at Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny. The RGH unit has modern facilities including six consultation rooms, three orthodontic surgeries, a day case suite and two minor oral surgery operating theatres. The laboratory houses three technicians and provides state‑of‑the‑art 3D patient planning and printing. The department undertakes a wide range of oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures, including dentoalveolar surgery, orthognathic surgery, orofacial malignancy surgery, trauma and salivary gland surgery (including sialendoscopy). Orthodontic and restorative specialties are also available. As a Dental Core Trainee, you will receive full access to training at consultant‑led clinics and regular weekly supervised and stand‑alone oral surgery theatre sessions under local and general anaesthesia.
