The Support Manager to the Chief Executive is a senior, high‑profile role providing professional, managerial and governance support to the Chief Executive and the wider executive function. The post holder plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective operation of the Chief Executive’s office, supporting the delivery of statutory, corporate and system leadership responsibilities through robust governance, assurance and performance arrangements.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a key interface with Executive Directors, senior managers, clinicians and external partners, including Welsh Government and system stakeholders.
  • Provide high‑level professional, managerial and governance support to the Chief Executive.
  • Lead and deliver a portfolio of projects on behalf of the Chief Executive, translating Board‑level priorities and strategic direction into operational delivery.
  • Analyse complex information, produce reports and presentations, support service planning and performance management, oversee budget monitoring within the Chief Executive’s office, and drive continuous improvement of systems, processes and communication arrangements.
  • Line‑manage administrative staff within the Chief Executive’s office and handle complex, sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and professionalism.

Qualifications

  • Education to Masters degree level or post‑grad equivalent.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Senior Management experience in the NHS.
  • Demonstrated capability and capacity for service management at a senior level, including staff management, financial management, business planning and change management.

Job‑related skills / abilities

  • Proven track record of effective management at a senior level.
  • Highly developed analytical and problem‑solving skills, critical thinking and analysis.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Knowledge / Understanding

  • Knowledge and understanding of wider political and social drivers that influence service delivery within the NHS.
  • Ability to be intellectually flexible and to look beyond existing structures and ways of working.
  • A commitment to improving patient services and supporting increased patient safety.
