The salary scale for a Band 3 has been adjusted as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2026/2027 and will be implemented in August 2026 backdated to 01 April 2026 where applicable.

Job Overview: We are seeking a highly organised and motivated individual to join the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Public Health Team as a Business Support Officer. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting the delivery of public health services by providing high-quality administrative, business, and project support within a busy and dynamic environment. The successful candidate will work across a range of functions and will be required to demonstrate flexibility, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Main duties of the job: The post holder will provide comprehensive and confidential administrative support to the Public Health Team to support the effective delivery of services.

  • Providing efficient administrative and business support to the Public Health Team
  • Supporting personnel and business functions within the service
  • Organising meetings, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, and tracking actions
  • Undertaking a wide range of administrative duties using a variety of IT systems and software packages
  • Applying a proactive, problem-solving approach to manage day-to-day issues
  • Liaising with colleagues across the Health Board and with external partner organisations
  • Supporting the smooth and effective running of the Public Health Team office
  • Working flexibly to meet the needs of the service

Qualifications & Knowledge:

Essential criteria:
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures and systems, the majority of which are non-routine, acquired through training and experience to Vocational Level 3 or equivalent; plus, knowledge of specialist functional terms, organisational policies and procedures and knowledge and experience to deal with non-routine issues such as problem solving for an area of work or developing alternative or additional procedures equivalent to Diploma level knowledge and experience.
  • Providing support to Business Support administrator functions as and when required.
  • Good general education.
  • Extensive use and knowledge of IT packages and applications, including Microsoft Office.
  • Advanced keyboard skills.
Desirable criteria:
  • Evidence of further study and personal development.
  • ECDL Qualification.
  • Audio Typing.
  • Experience in use of databases and online applications.
Experience:

Essential criteria:

  • Business Support experience, including preparation of agendas, collation of reports and minute taking.
  • Experience of providing secretarial and administrative support to an executive/senior manager.
  • Experience of electronic diary management.
  • Knowledge of the full range of administrative and organisational policies and procedures, acquired through training and relevant experience.
Desirable criteria:
  • Experience of providing Project Management Support.
  • Knowledge of relevant organisational policies.
  • Previous NHS experience.
