Job Overview
A vacancy for a Higher Medical Laboratory Assistant position has arisen in a very busy Microbiology Laboratory based at the Royal Gwent Hospital, with additional services on The Grange University Hospital, Cwmbran and Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny. The Department processes a wide variety of clinical samples using both manual and automated methodology.
The hours of work will be 37.5 hours over a 7 day working week, with a requirement to work evenings, night shifts, weekends and Bank holidays on a rotational basis.
Main duties of the job
The job will comprise of many varied tasks – including registration of request forms onto the LIMS system, preparing samples for processing, using automation, stock control, handling and receipting deliveries, replenishing stock, cleaning equipment, electronically ordering consumables etc.
At Nevill Hall there will be a requirement to make patient appointments and provide advice on sample collection.
The successful applicant will need to be organised, methodical, have good computer skills and attention to detail, and be able to work in a team.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
